Manchester's rain has a way of finding every weak spot on a roof. If you have noticed a damp patch on the ceiling, a slipped tile or water dripping into the loft, you probably want to know what happens next. Here is a plain guide to roof repairs in Manchester and the nearby areas we cover, including Stockport, Salford, Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Trafford and Wigan.
Common roof problems we repair
Most roof repairs come down to a handful of problems:
Slipped, cracked or missing tiles and slates. Strong winds and age can loosen them, leaving a gap for rain to get in.
Ridge and hip tiles. The tiles along the top and corners of a pitched roof are bedded in mortar. When the mortar breaks down, the tiles can work loose.
Flashing. The lead or other flashing where the roof meets a chimney or wall seals out water. If it lifts or cracks, water can run behind it.
Flat roofs. Extensions, garages and dormers often have flat roofs, which can blister, split or lift at the edges.
Storm damage. After high winds, roofs can be left with missing tiles or damaged coverings that need fixing quickly.
Finding the real cause of a leak
Water often travels before it shows up inside, so a stain on the ceiling isn't always directly under the problem. That is why leak detection matters. We find where water is actually getting in and repair it properly, rather than patching the spot where it appears. One of our Google reviewers, Finn B., said we "stepped up when previous roofers had failed to identify my issue."
What happens when you call
When you call us on 0800 046 1159, we will ask about the problem and arrange a time to look at the roof. We give free quotes, and we explain what we have found in plain language. If the roof needs a repair, we tell you. If a repair won't last and a replacement makes more sense, for example on an old flat roof, we tell you that too, and you decide. There is no payment until completion.
Emergency roof repairs in Manchester
Some problems can't wait. If water is coming in during a storm, we offer 24/7 emergency roofing across Greater Manchester, West Yorkshire and the surrounding areas. Our freephone line is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Stay safe while you wait
Please don't climb onto your roof yourself. Roofs are slippery and dangerous, especially when wet. If you can, catch drips with a bucket, move valuables away from the leak and call a roofer.
